Entitled to British War Medal 1914-18.^^Together with Mother's and Widow's Ribbon (AIF), one star, suspension bar missing; WWI Wounded Stripe, in brass, with original backing plate. ^^Roy Vane Thomas Dowdell, butcher, age 20, born at Mt Gambier, Sth Aust; Enl.10Aug1915 at Adelaide, Sth Aust, in 10Bn, with previous service in 74Bn Citizens Forces; trf to Rfts 10Bn as Corporal 16Sep1915; Emb.02Dec1915; admitted to No 3 Aux Hosp, Cairo for circumcision 02Mar1916; to France 29Mar1916; TOS 10Bn 12Jun1916 and reverts to Private; MIA and after Court of Enquiry on 19Jun1917 amended to KIA 23-25Jul1916 in France; resting place unknown but with a gravestone at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial Cemetery, The Somme, France.^^With copy of Service File and several coloured photos of Mt Gambier Memorial featuring R.V.T.
