Australia, WWII, various wartime correspondence with Pte T.G.Paine, serving overseas in the AIF, including one 4 pages, another 5 pages and another 6 pages, all neatly handwritten from the same lady in Uralla, NSW to a soldier named Tom (determined to be Pte Tom Paine) detailing problems caused by his wife's actions in Uralla while he was absent overseas, and others relating to the well-being of his wife and family including one child hospitalised along with his wife. Fine - very fine. (7)

NX1769 Thomas Grattan Paine, baker, born 05May1908 at Taree, NSW; Enl.02Nov1939 at Gunnedah, NSW; Disch.23Aug1945 as Staff Sergeant, HQ 12 Aust Fd Baking Coy.

In June 1942 Pte Paine returned home on compassionate leave to find his wife had taken up with another soldier, not serving overseas, and his four children were living in Armidale Catholic Orphanage. Subsequently he filed for divorce. A copy of a newspaper report of divorce proceedings is enclosed with the lot.
