Shire Of Donald, (Victoria), H.Goldsmith, President, For King And Country, WWI tribute medal in bronze (31mm) (C.1924/2a, with obverse of C.1924/2 and reverse of C.1911/14), by Stokes (& Sons), ring top suspension. Good very fine.

Carlisle states that the above medal is a combination of 1924/2 and 1911/4 however, although records are hard to find, it appears that some time by at least 1915 H.Goldsmith was no longer president of the Shire of Donald. Therefore the reverse design of C.1911/14 appears to be correct, but perhaps the above obverse was a new design that was later used as the George V head on C.1921/2 which has the maker's name under the bust like the above medal. Perhaps the above medal design was presented to those men who enlisted for service in the AIF in 1914.
