Philip I, (A.D. 244-249), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 248, (23.30 g), obv. laureate bust of Philip I to right draped and cuirassed seen from behind, around IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, rev. around SAECVLARES AVGG, S C in exergue, stag walking to left, (cf.S.9012, RIC 161, C.183). Attractive large flan, brown patination, extremely fine and a rare reverse with stag left.

This type with the Saeculares reverse including this rare stag left variety commemorates the thousandth anniversity of Rome's founding.
