India, Mughal, Nur al-Din Muhammad Jahangir (A.H.1014-1037, A.D. 1556-1605), silver zodiacal rupee Class A, (11.44 g), Ahmadabad mint, Regnal year 13, 1027 A.H. = (A.D.1618), original issue, obv. Constellation of Sher/Singha (Leo the Lion); lion, with forepaw raised, standing left, pellets on back, radiate sun behind Leo (lion) dottede border, rev. Persian couplet citing Jahangir and his father Akbar, and mint; AH date to lower left, (Liddle Type S-189, Wright -, Hull 1477 var. [direction of lion]; KM 150.11 [same obverse die]). Bright, has been cleaned, extremely fine and very rare.
The silver zodiacal rupees of Ahmadabad mint were only struck for five months, all are dated 1027, many later copies were made, this issue although cleaned and bright is an original strike of A.H. 1027 (1618).
