Description

Sicily, Leontini, (c.450-440 B.C.), silver tetradrachm 25 mm, (16.61 g), obv. laureate head of Apollo to right, rev. Spaced around **L E O N T I N O N*, lion's head with open jaws to right, above, below and to right, barley grain, to left a tripod, (S.834, Boehringer 33, SNG ANS 232 var., HGC 2, 675). A lovely, toned coin with a particularly elegant early classical head of Apollo. Some very minor surface roughness, otherwise extremely fine (as described by Nomos), rare.
