Single to WIA: British War Medal 1914-18. 7297 A-Sgt. J.A.Polson. 3-Bn. A.I.F. Impressed. With incorrect ribbon and a 1904 pin-back suspender bar, small edge nick, otherwise fine.
Entitled to Victory Medal 1914-19.
John Albert Polson, farmer, age 36, born at Grafton, NSW; Enl.28Aug1916 at RAS Showground, Sydney, in Dubbo Depot Battalion; Emb.10May1917; to A/Cpl 23Feb1917; to A/Sgt 09Mar1917; reverts to Pte 28Jul1917; to France 18Dec1917; WIA 14Apr1918 GSW to left hand, severe resulting in amputated ring finger and extensive damage to palm, France; RTA 21Jul1918; Disch.08Oct1918 Medically Unfit.
John Albert Polson died in the Lower Clarence Hospital in July 1954 at the age of 74. After his war service he did clerical work in Grafton for several years before moving to Maclean. He was secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and also had a similar position in the local Scottish Association. He was a bachelor and lived at Cameron House in Maclean which provided accommodation for ex-serving members. Members of the local RSL Sub-branch acted as pall bearers at his funeral service conducted at the local Presbyterian Church.
