Italy, Napoli, Filippo II, (king of Spain), (1556-1598), silver carlino, 22mm, (2.41 g), Second Period, Napoli (Naples) mint, Germano Ravaschieri, mintmaster; Vincenzo Porzio, trial master; dated 1577, obv. PHILIP D G REX ARA VTR SI 1577, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust left; GR/(VP) monograms to right, rev. FIDEI/DEFEN/SOR in four lines; above, cross fourchee with pellets in angles flanked by quadrilobes; all within wreath, (cf.CNI XX 1099 (for type), Pannuti-Riccio -, MIR 181/3). Very fine, toned, rare.
