On August 8th, 1917, a lady named Mrs. Wilkinson fell into the Harbour from the Neutral Bay Wharf at Circular Quay. Mr. Ramsden on seeing the dangerous position she was in and not being able to swim himself, at once threw a life buoy which she was, however, not able to grasp. He then jumped into the water and with much difficulty reached the buoy, which supported him, and with one hand managed to keep the woman above water until they were both pulled in by the rope attached to the buoy. Thomas Samuel Ramsden was awarded the Society's Bronze Medal and Certificate of Merit.
