Description

Military Medal, (GVR type 1). 538 Pte A.H.Carter. 4/Aust:M.G.C. Impressed. No ribbon, toned, very fine.

Recommendation: Great bravery and determination as an ammunition carrier during the advance at Villers Bretonneux on the night of the 24/25th April 1918. Owing to heavy casualties among the carriers it was necessary to send back through a very heavy barrage for more ammunition. Carter volunteered at once and returned several times bringing up ammunition. Through his splendid work the supply of S.A.A. to his Sub-section was always good, and by his willingness and cheerful contempt of danger he greatly inspired all ranks.
