Sicily, Syracuse, (400-370 B.C.), silver dekadrachm by Euainetos as signed by the artist, (42.75 g), obv. charioteer driving fast quadriga left, Nike flying above to right holding fillet, armour and helmet on steps in exergue, rev. head of Artemis-Arethusa to left, surrounded by four dolphins, traces of legend above and below EY AINE, (cf.S.953, Gallatin dies (-/CY) obverse die very close to Gallatin R1, Scavino (RIN Vol.CIX pp 133-173), (dies -/R6), the obverse die close to D3 and very similar to Rizzo Pl.LIV, 9, a new die combination, good very fine and very rare.

Ex Collection of James Timothy Gleeson. The lot includes a hallmarked sterling silver ring support and a leather necklace for the support of the ring for wearing.
James Timothy Gleeson (21 November 1915-20 October 2008) was known as Australia's foremost surrealist painter and poet. He served on the board of the National Gallery of Australia.
