South Africa, Republic, proof Majuba Pond Medallion, 1981, in 22ct gold (one troy pound [12 troy oz] of fine gold), (75mm), issued by South African Historical Mint to commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of Majuba in 1881. In case of issue with Certificate No 1 of a limited issue of 100 world-wide, FDC and very rare.

The Battle of Majuba Hill, near Volksrust in South Africa was fought on 27 February 1881. It was the last and most decisive battle of the First Anglo-Boer War and resulted in a victory for the Boers and arguably was one of the most humiliating defeats for the British Forces. The Boers were commanded by General P.J.Joubert and the British were commanded by General P.G.Colley, both of whom are featured on the obverse of the medallion.
