Ancient Roman denarii, Vespasian, (A.D. 69-79), Rome mint, issued A.D. 74, (3.29 g), obv. laureate head of Vespasian to right, around IMP CAESAR VESP AVG, rev. winged caduceus, PONTIF MAXIM around, (S.2306, RIC 84) (illustrated); another, issued 78-9, (3.14 g), rev. Ceres standing to left holding poppy and ears of corn, (S.2283, RIC 132, RSC 54); Trajan, (98-117 A.D.), issued 98-99 A.D., (3.82 g), rev. Fortuna seated to left, holding rudder and cornucopiae, (cf.S.3139, RIC 318, BMC 578, RSC 154); another, issued 108 A.D, (3.01 g), rev. Mars walking left carrying Victory and trophy, (S.3119, RIC 114, RSC 63); another, issued 116-117, (3.44 g), rev.
