Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 2 reverse), - three clasps - Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen. 167 Tpr: A.Atkinson. South Aus: I.B. Impressed. A few light contact marks, otherwise good very fine.

Entitled to South Africa 1901 clasp - a later addition to unit medal roll.

On 7 August 1901 a welcome home social was held for Troopers Otto Menzel and Alfred Atkinson of the 4th Contingent at the Aldgate Pump Hotel in Aldgate, South Australia. Gold Maltese crosses of appreciation were prepared for the men but unfortunately Atkinson could not be there to collect his.
