Ghaznavids, Mahmud ibn Sabuktakin, (A.H. 388-421) (A.D. 998-1030), silver bilingual dirham (Sanskrit and Arabic), Mahmudpur mint (Lahore), A.H. 418 = A.D. 1027-1028, (A.1610, M.773a, BMC 507). Very fine and very rare.

This issue was the result of one of the seventeen campaigns made into India and this unusual issue of coinage was only issued by Mahmud in A.H.418 and 419 (next lot) which resulted from the capture of Lahore. The issue is unique for this period in the Islamic coinage in the use of Sanskrit as another language on the coinage.
