Description
Anatolian Beyliks, Saruhan Beylik, Urkhan, first reign, (A.H. 790-792) (A.D. 1388-1390), silver akce (or double dirhem), no mint or date, (A.1250, cf.M.1201). Very fine and rare.
With the collapse of Seljuq rule, a number of small principalities (Beyliks) emerged in Western Anatolia, spreading into Central Anatolia with the waning of Mongol rule later in the 14th century. Early coins are imitative of Ilkhan types but by the middle of the 14th century their identified coinage begins. Most of these Beyliks were swallowed up by the Ottomans in the 1380's and 1390's, but received a reprieve after the invasion of Timur in 1402.
