Description

Transit of Venus medal, 2004, in bronze (55mm), by A.J.Parkes, obverse, inscribed, 'The/Transit of Venus/Science and Medicine/Observations by Staff,/Friends and Patients from/the Royal Childrens Hospital/Brisbane, Australia/8th of June 2004/Astronomy and History/by/Dr. Bob McCrossin/and/Prof. John Pearn', reverse, Present were, and then lists 21 names in alphabetic order of those present, all within an open wreath with ribbon tie. In plastic container of issue, uncirculated.

Among the names on the reverse of the above medal are Prof. John Pearn (Major General John Pearn AO RFD (Retd) and former Surgeon General of the Australian Defence Force), Dr Mervyn Cobcroft (Major M.D.Cobcroft, OAM, RFD (Retd)), Dr Bob McCrossin, Dr Roger Allen, Mr Greg Faux and Mr Colin Ryan AM.

Together with printed sheet on transit of Venus from an article in the Australian newspaper and details of the observation as commemorated in the above medal as well as attendance sheets (2) for the above observation, one with printed signatures of Prof Pearn and Dr McCrossin, the organisers of the viewing.
