Trio: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; Australia Senior Cadets Military Brigade Competitions Champion Team Medal 1912-13. 17080 Pte. W.F.Murrells. 5-F.Amb. A.I.F. on first two medals, Cadet W.Murrell 58th Battn on last medal (note incorrect spelling, should be Murrells). First two medals impressed, last medal engraved. Extremely fine.
William (Bill) Freeman Murrells, tinsmith, age 20, born at Charters Towers, Qld; Enl.01Mar1916 at Melbourne, Vic, with 2 years service in Senior Cadets and 2 years in Citizen Forces with Essendon Rifles; to AMC Clearing Hospital, Broadmeadows, Vic 07Aug1916; to No.11 AGH 31Aug1916; to Clearing Hospital Military Camp Seymour, Vic 27Nov1916; Emb.19Feb1917; to AMCTD Park House, Southampton, England 21Apr1917; to France 24Jun1917; to 5 Field Ambulance 31Aug1917; trf to 5 F.A.Bde as Gunner 25Feb1918; WIA 19Apr1918 GSW left thigh, left leg and left hand (severe), France; RTA 15Sep1918; Disch.04Dec1919; Died 27Dec1946 at his home in Ascotvale, Vic; he was an employee of the Metro Gas Co at Albert Park and his funeral service, attended by Brethren of Remembrance Lodge No.481, of which he was a member, was held at Fawkner Crematorium in Fawkner Memorial Park, Melbourne, Victoria.
