Trio to WIA at Gallipoli: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal 1914-18, Victory Medal 1914-19. 1219 Pte E.S.Cornish. 5/Bn. A.I.F. on first medal, 1333 Pte E.S.Cornish. 5/Bn. A.I.F. on second medal and 1333 Pte E.S.Cornish. 5 Bn. A.I.F. on last medal. All medals impressed. Display mounted, very fine.
Together with 2-figure type RSL badge with the year 1928 overlaid on the crown at top, reverse numbered 13643.
Edward Stanley Cornish, labourer, age 26, born at Hindmarsh, Sth Aust; Enl.10Nov1914 at Melbourne, Vic; Emb.01Feb1915; to Gallipoli and reported missing in action at the landing on 25Apr1915, later reported wounded in the head; rejoined 5 Bn at Gallipoli 16May1915; WIA 16Jul1915 shell wound to face and head, Gallipoli; to Malta 28Jul1915 and to St Andrews Hospital; RTA 29Jan1916 for 6 months change suffering neurasthenia (similar to chronic fatigue syndrome); Disch.31Jul1916 Medically Unfit.
