Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 2 reverse with faint ghost dates), - four clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901. 2642 Gr. E, Stewart (note incorrect spelling, should be Steward, see below), N.S.W.Art. Impressed. Hairlines, otherwise good very fine.
2642 Gunner Edward Steward, A Battery, Royal Australian Artillery. Murray p48, 55 states that this unit formed entirely of officers and men of the RAA, NSW with the Field Battery being the nucleus and the balance made up from Garrison Corps.
A Battery NSW Regt, RAA under command of Major E.Antill returned from South Africa and arrived at Albany, WA on 02Sep1901 aboard the troopship Harlech Castle. One of those on the unit's nominal roll was Gunner Edward Steward.
