Saddam Hussein signature, in blue ink on an official, untranslated document typed in Arabic (approx 21x30cm), c1990s, at top is a printed eagle with shield device and with a patterned border to the page. Small file holes to right margin, rough top edge, otherwise fine, clean condition.

Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti (28 April 1937 - 30 December 2006) was President of Iraq from 16 July 1979 until 9 April 2003. Under his rule Iran and Kuwait were invaded resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and he was dubbed 'Butcher of Baghdad'. In 2003, a coalition led by the U.S. invaded Iraq to depose Saddam and following his capture on 13 December 2003, his trial took place under the Iraqi Interim Government. On 5 November 2006, he was convicted by an Iraqi court of crimes against humanity related to the 1982 killing of 148 Iraqi Shi'a and sentenced to death by hanging. His execution was carried out on 30 December 2006.
