Description

Qantas travel poster for Japan, c1960, features a large, colourful rooster right on a yellow background, with a Boeing 707 passenger jet in flight at top right and at the bottom is an indication of Qantas' association at the time with B.O.A.C., TEAL and S.A.A. (size approx 99x74.5cm). Some toning and spots at top right corner, some creases, mounting pin-holes in each corner otherwise very fine and scarce.

This poster was designed by Harry Rogers, an Australian poster artist and graphic designer who worked for Qantas from the early 1950s through to 1985. The rooster has been featured in the design as it is an important element in Japanese mythology and Shinto religion and is usually associated with the sun and solar Japanese deities, which makes it the perfect image for a poster promoting Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun.
