Sicily, Syracuse, reign of Hiketas II, (288-279 B.C.), AE litra, (7.92 g), obv. head of youthful Zeus Hellanios to left, thunderbolt behind, rev. eagle to left with open wings standing on thunderbolt, to left **SURAK OSIWN*, (S.-, BAR 39, CNS 157, SNG ANS 814) (illustrated); AE 22 (9.89 g), struck c.287-283 B.C., obv. wreathed head of Kore left, torch behind, rev. charioteer driving biga right, star above, monogram and X in exergue, (S.-, CNS Calciati 123, BAR 38, cf.SNG ANS 765-6); litra AE 20, (7.27 g), struck circa 283-279 B.C., obv. youthful head of Zeus Hellanios to right around traces of **DIOS ELLANIOU*, rev. eagle standing left on thunderbolt, with wings spread, A to left, around **SURAKOSIWN*, (cf.S.1211, CNS Calciati 168, SNG ANS 799). Toning, very fine and scarce. (3)
