After being discharged from the AIF, Peter Soutar resumed his duties with the Salvation Army Australia and was officer-in-charge of the Men's Home at Newcastle, NSW. In October 1920 he was promoted from Captain to the rank of Ensign and transferred to the Subscriber's Department in Sydney. He was a member of the Totally and Permanently Disabled Soldiers Association and also of Petersham Temperance Lodge No.513. He died at Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, NSW on 16 August 1939 and was buried at the northern suburbs Salvation Army Cemetery.
