Pair: Egypt Medal 1882-89 (undated reverse), - clasp - Suakin 1885; Khedive's Star 1884-6. 43, Pte P.Jackson, N.S.W.Infy on first medal, second medal unnamed as issued. Named medal engraved. Toned, extremely fine.

Philip Jackson, blacksmith, age 19, born at Milton, NSW; Enl.18Feb1885; Emb.03Mar1885 on SS Iberia; when contingent RTA he was left in hospital at Suakin suffering from typhoid fever along with 316 Pte G.W.Berry (AKA G.M.Barry) and 1106 Dvr J.Davidson; Pte Jackson died of illness at Suakin and the other two were transported to Netley Hospital in London, England.

Philip's brother, James Jackson also of Milton, service no.43 also served with NSW Infantry. On the contingent's return voyage to Australia, James was one of those sufficiently affected by typhoid fever that they were left in hospital at Colombo, Ceylon. Three of those left died but James recovered and arrived back in Sydney on 09Jul1885.
