Mentioned in Despatch for The War of 1914-1920, an original document named to Australian Imperial Force Lt C.W.Goodman, and with printed signature of Winston S.Churchill, awarded for gallant and distinguished services in the Field and dated 12th February 1920. Age toning at edges, otherwise flat and very fine.
Cyril William Goodman was an electrical engineer, born in England but living in Adelaide, Sth Aust when he enlisted in AIF. He was entitled to the General Service Medal 1918-62 with clasp Kurdistan. On 19 May 1920 the Deputy Adjutant General wrote to the Adjutant General as follows, 'Representations have been made to me regarding Lieutenant C.W.Goodman of the 1st Aust Wireless Sqd which did service in Mesopotamia. I am informed that Lieutenant Goodman was recommended by Captain the Honorable Nigel Somerset, DSO, MC for the M.Cross. Up to the present, however, Lieutenant Goodman has not received any honors. I desire enquiries be made into this matter and to be furnished with a report as soon as possible.' The response was simply to state that Lt Goodman was awarded an MID.
