Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, trophy of arms type 2 with swivelling suspender (1837-55). 3026. Sergt. Jas. Smyth, 1st Bn. 11th Foot. Impressed. Nicely toned, good very fine.
The 1st/11th (North Devonshire) Regiment of Foot, 'The Bloody Eleventh', served in Australia. Initially the HQs and 3 companies arrived in Sydney, NSW in 1845 with the balance of the regiment following. They then transferred to Hobart Town, Tasmania but in 1846 were recalled to Sydney to restore law and order. The regiment was based at Sydney's Victoria Barracks until returning to England in 1857.
