Gaius (Caligula), (A.D. 37-41), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 40-41, (11.35 g), obv. bare head of Caligula to left, around C CAESAR AVG PRON AVG P M TR P IIII P P, rev. VESTA above, Vesta seated to left, veiled and draped seated on ornamental throne, holding patera and transverse sceptre, S C across field, (S.1803, RIC 54, C.29, BMC 73). Attractive red brown patina, very fine and rare.
