Description

Akbar, (A.H. 963-1014, A.D.1556-1605), round Gold imitation fractional mohur of native workmanship, maybe a temple token, (2.14 grams), style of Urdu Zafar Qarin mint, obv. Kalima, within diamond, rev. Akbar's name, and mint signature, (cf.BMC 79-80 [illustrated on round flans] cf.KM. SAC 118.1). Has been mounted, generally of crude style, otherwise nearly very fine, interesting and rare.

The issue has generally been regarded as a temple token in gold struck in imitation of the genuine issues from this mint by Akbar. The British Museum specimens also round are on larger flans and much heavier and are described in the BM catalogue as barbarous.
