Description
Temple Token, as an issue of Jalalu-D-Din Firoz Shah II, (689-695 A.H., 1290-1296 A.D.), silver Tanka type, (10.80 grams), no mint and undated, obv. three lines, (The Iman Al Mustansim, the commander of the faithful), rev. four lines, (The most mighty Sultan Jalalu-D-Din wa ud din the Sultan), (cf.Hull 184 [but a gold tanka], cf.Wright 280-1, cf.Rajgor 975). Toned, extremely fine.
The issue of a silver tanka as similar in style to a gold tanka is characteristic of copies used for various purposes including temple tokens. The surface of this piece in sharp and the fabric suggest a 19th century manufacture.
