Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, (c.A.D. 375-414), gold stater, (7.9 grams), archer type, BMC Class IIb, obv. king nimbate, standing to left, throwing incense to altar, dwarf attendant standing behind him holding parasol, rev. goddess Lakshmi nimbate standing facing on a lotus, to right the Brahmi legend Vikramadityah, (cf.M.4820, Altekar cf.plate XVI, 1, BMC 107 [Pl.VIII, 7] from very similar dies). Slightly weak on the obverse, the reverse superb, otherwise extremely fine and very rare.
