George V, Winchester College, King's Medal, in gold (tested as 22ct, 83.5g, 48mm) by Bertram Mackennal, struck by the Royal Mint, obverse, bust left, inscription around, reverse, the tomb of William of Wykeham, arched windows in background, engraved around edge 'Anthony Herbert de Bosdari 1916' (BHM 4010), in a red leatherette case, gold blocked on lid 'GVR' beneath King's crown. With surface scratches in obverse field, otherwise good extremely fine and rare.
Anthony Herbert de Bosdari was born in London on 23rd October 1899 and educated at Summer Fields then Winchester College from 1912 to 1918. Whilst at Winchester College Bosdari won prizes for Latin Verse, English Speech, he edited the school magazine and was on the school soccer and cricket teams. He also played cricket for Derbyshire.
