Royal Society Queen's Medal, 1838, in frosted silver (73mm) by W.Wyon, obverse, diademed bust left, reverse, standing figure of Sir Isaac Newton, medal set within a watch-style glass, bound by a silver frame, engraved around silver rim 'Andrew Noble 1880' (Eimer 1322, BHM 1885). Extremely fine and rare.
Sir Andrew Noble, 1st Baronet KCB FRS (1831-1915) physicist noted for his work on ballistics and gunnery. He was born in Greenock, Scotland on 13th September 1831, educated at Edinburgh Academy and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich.
In recognition of his scientific work he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and was awarded the Society's medal in 1880.
