Alfred Ernest Jones, tailor, age 18, born at Glen Innes, NSW; Enl.06Jul1915 at Liverpool, NSW with prior service in Cadets 3 years and Militia 2 months; Emb.30Sep1915; WIA 27Jul1916 GSW left arm, France; WIA 09Apr1918 and reported missing, later amended to DOW, France, one witness account - 2033 Pte W.Gow 18 Bn A.I.F. stated - On the 9th April 1918, the billet in Gentelles occupied by "D" Coy was struck by a shell and several men wounded. I dressed the wound of one of these men and was told afterwards by his mates that it was Pte A.E.Jones. I am a stretcher Bearer and have seen a large number of wounded cases. In my opinion, the man would have no chance of living, for the wound had taken the top of the scalp away and exposed the brain.; burial location unknown but presumably within the local area.
