Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 2 reverse with faint ghost dates). 54 Tpr W.C.Quinn. M.R. Impressed. Heavily scratched on obverse, otherwise very fine.

William Cuff Quinn, shearer, born c1871 at Molong; served 6 years with NSW Mounted Infantry; service in South Africa with A Sqdn, NSW Mounted Infantry; WWII: Enl.15Apr1916 at Lismore, NSW in Machine Gun Rfts; AWL from Seymour Camp 3rd MD from 04Dec1916 and posted as a deserter on 10Jan1917. He subsequently re-enlisted at Bendigo, Vic on 16Aug1917 and Disch.26Oct1917 Medically Unfit after 80 days service. No medal entitlement.
William Quinn died at Lithgow at age 68 in mid-August 1939. He was buried at Bowenfels Cemetery with attendance by the President and members of the Lithgow Branch of the RSSIL. The last post was played by bugler R.J.Schulstad and the pall bearers were returned soldiers.
