Group of Four: Distinguished Conduct Medal (GVR), Queen's South Africa Medal 1899 - two clasps - Natal, Transvaal; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 32029 Pte H.Leishman 14/High:L.I. on first, third and fourth medals, 13841 Pte H.Leishman R.A.M.C. on second medal. All medals impressed and court mounted. Very fine.
With thirty five photocopy pages of research, with duplication, and sixteen pages of extracts from books.
DCM: LG 28/3/18 p3864, for Cambria Dec 1917, 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher-bearer. He brought in great numbers of wounded and when not carrying wounded he volunteered for other duties. While bringing in a wounded man he was attacked by the enemy. Though unarmed, he knocked one of them down and the others retired'.
Pte Hugh Leishman, mechanic, born Bridgeton, Glasgow, age 20; Enl.27Mar1900 in Glasgow and served as stretcher bearer; Disch 25Sep1901; re-enlisted into 14th the Highland Light Infantry and served in France in 1916, later served with the 18th HLI.
