Gordian II, (238 A.D.), silver denarius, Rome Mint, (2.24 g), obv. Laureate bust of Gordian II to right draped and cuirassed seen slightly from behind and bald in front of the laurel wreath, IMP M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG, around, rev. PROVIDENTIA AVGG around, Providentia, standing facing with head to left leaning against column with legs crossed, holding wand over globe at her feet and cornucopiae, (S.8465, RIC 1, BMC 19-20, C.5,). Flan crack and has been in fire, otherwise very fine and very rare.
Ex Dr V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 107 (lot 3848) and also coming from an old Hungarian collection.
