Trajan, (A.D. 98-117), an issue in honour of his deceased father, silver denarius, issued 115, Rome mint, (3.11 g), obv. laureate bust of Trajan, draped on far shoulder to right, around [IMP TRAI]ANVS AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, rev. Trajan senior seated left on curule chair, holding patera and sceptre, around DIVVS PATER TRAIAN, (S.3323, RIC 252, RSC 140, BMC 500). Fine, very scarce.

Ex Dr. V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from M.R.Roberts retail sale in packet described, previously from the Ron Hansen Collection.
Trajan's Forum featured a temple to the emperor's deified father who died in 100 A.D., which was situated behind Trajan's monumental column. Upon the emperor's death, his body was interred in the base of the column and the adjacent temple was rededicated to the deified ruler.
