Vitellius, (69 A.D.), silver denarius, Tarraco mint, issued May-July 69, (3.30 g), obv. A VITELLIVS IMP GERMAN, laureate head right, rev. CONSENSVS EXERCITVM (sic), Mars wearing cloak and helmet striding left holding spear and aquila with vexillum (cf.S.2190, cf.RIC 23, cf.BMC 84). Very fine and extremely rare.
Ex Dr. V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 106 (lot 3492), previously from Baldwins, London, Auction Sale 42, 26th September, 2005 (lot 272) coming from Boyd Collection and previously from W.S.Lincoln London stock in January 1904.
This is a pleasing confirmation of BM 84 one of only four examples known. The BM coin comes from C.M. Cracherode who donated it to the BM in 1799.
