Dioscuri right in linear frame, ROMA, trident below horses, (S.54, Cr.115/1, Syd 268 & 268a, BMC 442); Anonymous Issue, (211-208 B.C.), silver denarius, Uncertain Mint, (4.06 g), obv. Head of Roma right X behind, border of dots, rev. Dioscuri right, linear frame, ROMA, AL(ligated) below horses (illustrated), (S.41, C.111/1, RSC Aelia 1, BMC Italy 116). First coin fine, second good very fine and very rare. (2)
Ex Dr V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 107 (lot 3570) and also comming from an old Hungarian collection.
The second coin issue Crawford assigns as being struck from less than 10 obverse & 12 reverse dies. See BMC Plate LXXX1,16. The issue was perhaps struck by an Ailius (Aelius) not otherwise known (Crawford p.197).
