Paeonia, Kingdom of, Patraos, (c.340-315 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (12.86 grams), obv. head of Apollo to r., with laureate, plain border, rev. horseman spearing fallen enemy, who holds spear and shield, kantharos behind horse, around **PA[T] ROU, (S.1520, Paeonian Hoard 184-5 [same dies], SNG ANS 1032 [same obverse die]). Broad flan, edge split, otherwise good very fine and a rare type with kantharos.

Ex. Paeonian Hoard and Jay Dawley Collection. $$ The Sotheby sale of the Paeonian hoard (London, 16th April, 1969, lots 184-190), had examples of this type coming from the same dies. This is an important type of much better style and condition than usual.
