Edward the Confessor, (1042-1066), silver penny, PACX type, London mint, issued 1042-1044, obv. diademed bust to left, in front holding a sceptre, rev. voided long cross ending at legends, with PAXX arranged in angles, annulet in centre, around +EADPOLD ON LVND (Eadwold of London), (S.1172, North 814, BMC type IV, Br.4 var., SCBI Norweb 205 [This Coin], Carlyon-Britton Num. Chron. 1905, Pl.vii, 8 [This Coin], Dolley Num. Chron. 1966, p.215 [This Coin] listed). Extremely fine and very rare with PAXX on reverse.

Armitage Collection bought by Spink, May 1960, and Norweb Collections (Spink London, Sale 45 [lot 84]). $$ Dolley suggests that all PAXX coins belong to the very outset of the emission of this type.
