Cilician Kingdom, Tarkondimotos I, (39-31 B.C.), issued at Hieropolis-Kastabala mint, AE 21, (7.15 g), obv. Tarkondimotos head right, wearing diadem, circle of dots, rev. Zeus enthroned left holding Nike & sceptre, **[BA]SILEWS* behind, [T]APKON**D*IMO/TOY before, **FILANTWNIO[U]* in exergue, (S.5682, RPC 3871, McClean 9135 (Pl.330, 11 p.304), BMC 1, (p.237), SNG Levante 1258, Lindgren 1656). Dark green patination, good very fine and rare.
Ex Dr Adrian Carr Collection and purchased from Mediterranean Coins in 2002.
Tarkondimotos I was made Dynast by Pompey and king by Mark Antony. Tarkondimotos died at the battle of Actium (2 September 31 BC) fighting for Mark Antony.
