Bank of Australia, copper printing plate (21x12.2cm), uniface, for One Share of Bank Capital Stock, One Hundred Pounds Sterg., 18-, engraved by 'S. Clayton Sct'. Very fine.

The Bank of Australia was established on 8 June 1826 by John Macarthur and his business associates with capital raised by the issue of one thousand œ100 shares. The bank commenced trading on 3 July 1826 but by December 1826 was in financial trouble and when the banking crisis hit in the next year, it closed its doors on 2 March 1843.

In his books, Michael P. Vort-Ronald illustrates some of the types issued however the selection of printing plates offered in the following lots appear to be different in design to these.
