Mark Antony, (32-31 B.C.), silver denarius, mint moving with Mark Antony, (3.50 g), obv. praetorian galley to right with rowers etc., around ANT AVG III VIR. [R.P.C.], rev. three military standards with wreaths and prows, CHORTIS SPECVLATORVM below, (S.1479, Cr.544/12, Syd.1214, BMC East 185, RSC 6). A few surface marks, otherwise toned, nearly very fine and rare.
Private purchase from Jaggard Coins 20 December 1983.
The cohortes speculatorum were the information gatherers, scouts and executioners of Antony's army.
