Syria, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.79 g), Antioch on the Orontes mint, dated year 163 = 150-149 B.C., obv. diademed head of Alexander I to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and sceptre, on right, **BASILEWS ALEXANDROU* and to left **QEOPATOROS EUERGETOU*, cornucopiae on far left, under throne date **GXR* and monogram **HARK*, (cf.S.7030, HGC 875a, SC 1781.3d, cf.ACNAC Houghton 174, cf.BMC 8, Newell 136). Well centred, nearly extremely fine and scarce.
