Early Australian Highland officer's sword, 1828 pattern, embossed design on blade, ricasso marked for maker, 'P.G.Dodd./& Son/146/Leadenhall St/London.', fish skin grip bound with woven copper wire, scabbard and guard with silver hallmark for London 1869, front of guard with name, 'Captn/J.Campbell'. Fine and scarce NSW Colonial item.

Captain John A. Campbell of the Duke of Edinburgh Highland Rifle, a Sydney volunteer corps. John Campbell was appointed Lieutenant in No.1 Company of the unit on 15.12.1868 and resigned his appointment on 24.01.1878. He was a prominent magistrate who resided at Randwick (Little Coogee Bay) and was one of the group of citizens who raised the unit in 1868 and provided funds for the purchase of the pipes and drums for the Corps.
