Germany, Duisburg, Henry III, as King (1046-56), silver denier, (1.48 g), obv. around +HEINRICVS REX, crowned and bearded head of king facing, rev. cross, DI-VS/BV-RG in angles, (Danneburg 316, Fritz Rudolf Knker GmbH & Co. Auction 130, [lot 1963]). With striking flaw, otherwise nearly very fine for this issue and rare.
Located on the join of the Ruhr flowing into the Rhine. In 883-4 was founded a king's court which was changed in the 10th century to a palatinate. Silver coinage in Duisburg commenced under Conrad II (1027-1039).
