A rare RAAF Decoration Group for Vietnam: Group of six: Distinguished Flying Cross (EIIR) 1969; Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45; Vietnam Medal; Coronation Medal 1953; Vietnamese Campaign Medal. R.J. Thompson. Vietnam Medal and last medal machine-engraved. Mounted as worn. Very fine. $ DFC: L.G.24Oct 1969: 'In recognition of his courage and devotion to duty while serving as a squadron check Captain during his operational tour of duty with No.35 Squadron in Vietnam.' Together with: Copy of citation; Government HOuse Sydney, letter regarding investiture by H.M. The Queen and Government House admission pass; congratulatory letters and telegram; newspaper clippings relating to a mortar attack on his Caribou aircraft at a U.S. Special Forces base at Katum near the Cambodian border, during which F/L Thompson successfully manages to complete his mission despite wounds to his co-pilot and himself; and extracts from 'Mission Vietnam.'
