George V, Melbourne Mint specimen set of florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence, 1916M, with black leatherette and plush blue presentation case. The threepence brilliant, sixpence with horizontal hairline mark behind head, shilling with multiple die breaks on the reverse and die axis at 45 degrees, lightly toned and florin with two obverse contact marks, light golden tone, all four probably have been dipped of the deep toning associated with sets kept in the presentation case, the threepence overall like a brilliant proof, the others more frosted with tiny brilliant die flashes, nearly FDC and very rare. Of the twenty five or so sets prepared over a period at the Melbourne Mint approximately fifteen sets were transferred from the Treasury to the National Coin Collection at the Royal Australian Mint. This set conforms with the characteristics of those sets.
